Motorways

  • The A2 – the most important traffic artery in the Netherlands – runs straight through Limburg. From Amsterdam and Utrecht you can drive directly via 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven to our province. The A2 runs via Maastricht to Belgium (Liège) and is the main connection to southern Europe.
  • From Rotterdam and The Hague you will find a connection to the A2 motorway near Eindhoven. If you are coming from the direction of Nijmegen, take the A73. This runs from Nijmegen to Roermond (Central Limburg).
  • Via the A67, you drive from Antwerp via Eindhoven to Venlo and the German border area (Ruhr area, Düsseldorf) and vice versa.
  • The A79 connects Heerlen and Maastricht in South Limburg. And via the A76, you can drive from Germany (Aachen, Cologne) via Parkstad (including Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Brunssum) to Belgium (Genk, Hasselt, Brussels, Antwerp) and vice versa.

Provincial roads

  • Limburg has an excellent network of provincial roads in all regions. These roads connect all large and small towns. Moreover, they are often very pleasantly situated.
Railway station

By train

National

  • Limburg has excellent train connections. All major cities (Maastricht, Heerlen, Sittard-Geleen, Roermond, Weert, Venlo) have railway stations from which you can easily reach the rest of the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Eindhoven, Nijmegen). The train connections with the rest of the country are largely provided by Dutch Railways (NS). On some routes (such as the one between Venlo and Nijmegen) Arriva trains run.

Regional

  • The regional train network (i.e. within Limburg) is provided by Arriva. Except for a few routes, you need to buy a ticket from Arriva for regional transport by train. These tickets are available at all stations. You can also travel with your OV public transport pass. This is also valid on Arriva. More information about the routes, times and tickets can be found on the Arriva website.

International

  • Limburg has a favourable international location. In Maastricht, Heerlen and Venlo you can change trains to Belgium (Maastricht) or Germany (Heerlen, Venlo). For this you need to buy a ticket from Belgian or German railways. Tickets are also available at Dutch stations. Your public transport pass is not valid on international routes. Information about international connections by train can be found on the NS website.
